Lead Researcher – Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust

Job Context
• BLAST invites male or female legal academics to apply for the position of Lead Researcher to conduct a research study on the Inclusion of Gender rights and Gender Sensitivity in the Legal Practice.
• PoWER Programme Overview:
• The initiative by Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), supported by Christian Aid, aims to identify and address the practical difficulties faced by women legal professionals in Bangladeshi courts and workplaces. Through this project, BLAST seeks to encourage greater participation of women in the legal profession and increase gender sensitivity among justice sector actors. The programme also intends to redress the lack of visibility of women in the formal and informal justice sector, to support and encourage female law students to pursue a legal profession in academia or practice, contribute to an increased number of mentoring relationships between experienced women legal professionals and law students, and foster a more proactive role of women in decision-making and leadership positions.
• Over a project period of one year, BLAST will carry out action research, as well as manifold advocacy and outreach activities, including stakeholder dialogues, in three districts – Dhaka, Khulna and Kushtia. Women legal professionals, such as judges and lawyers, and women working in the justice-sector, for instance as court reporters or courtroom staff, are expected to play an active role in advocating for change within their specific contexts.

Job Description / Responsibility
• The Role of the Lead Researcher:
• The Lead Researcher will be responsible for selecting two batch of research fellows among young women lawyer and law graduates applicants, developing methodology for research, developing research tools, monitoring the research study, conducting data analysis, reviewing the research report, and providing guidance to the research fellows. The duration of the research programme will be from October 2017 to June 2018.
• The research under this programme will be the continuation of the research conducted under another project run by BLAST titled

• Eligibility:

•  A legal academic; ( LLB/LLM from any reputed University )
•  At least 4 years of experience in the field of legal research, preferably in gender or equality issues;
•  Having proven analytical and writing skills;
•  Highly motivated, reliable, and organised.
